Dead Man Walking

Scripture 1 Corinthians 15:3-5

I passed on to you the most important points of doctrine that I had received: Christ died to take away our sins as the Scriptures predicted.
He was placed in a tomb. He was brought back to life on the third day as the Scriptures predicted.
He appeared to Cephas. Next he appeared to the twelve apostles.

Observation

Jesus was a great teacher and healer, but Paul leaves those out of the most important points of the gospel:
  • * Jesus died, paying the price for our sins.
  • * Jesus was buried in a tomb.
  • * Jesus came back to life on the third day.
    * He appeared to many individuals, the twelve apostles, to 500 believers, and lastly to Paul.

These essentials make the Good News of Jesus unique. Only Jesus arose from the dead, appearing to hundreds of witnesses. He was a dead man walking.

Application

I haven’t seen Him as the first hundreds did, but I have experienced Jesus. My life has been changed as a result. I too am a dead man walking, born again through the grace and power of Christ in me and living in the freedom and fullness of life He gives.

While I am still far from perfect, I now live to follow Him, walk in relationship with and dependence on Him every day. As I do that, He transforms me into His likeness and so accomplishes His purposes in and through me.

Prayer

Lord, You alone have overcome sin and death. Thank you for your grace that makes that victory and life available to me. May I grow daily in knowledge of you, and likeness to you.
