Normal Ain't Working!

Scripture:Mt 7:13 -14 - "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."
Observation: Jesus is making it very clear in this statement that we need to take great care in how we live & we need to watch out for the natural desire to want to fit in and be accepted in life. Most people, if asked, say they just want to live a normal life, but a normal life will not get you to heaven. Normal is the road that the crowd is walking & Jesus said that road with the many walking on it is heading towards destruction. We need to find the narrow road that only a few are walking on, as that one leads to life. If we want to secure eternal life we will have to learn to walk a different road to the crowd & be comfortable with not fitting in!
Application: We must become students of life & ask ourselves what road is the crowd taking? The crowd is getting into huge amounts of debt, in the crowd marriages are falling apart due to financial pressures, the crowd has to work 16 hours a day seven days a week to pay the bills, in the crowd children are going off the rails as much needed father & mother figures are relinquishing their God given parental rights to the TV, the crowd has not time to help others in need, the crowd refuses to forgive so they turn to recreational drugs to numb the pain, and the list goes on & on!
We need to look, smell & feel different to the crowd, we need to walk the Kingdom road of biblical instruction which is counter culture to the world. Running on the road with the crowd as part of the so called normal will cost us everything including the eternal security of our own souls... Walking the narrow road with the few & not worrying if you don't fit in brings huge rewards! To not fit into 'normal' is the greatest compliment you can get! Jesus & the disciples were not loopy but they were not normal either because they know that 'normal' is not working!
Prayer: Father teach me how to quietly walk the narrow road & allow me to be comfortable not fitting in with the 'normal' behaviour of the crowd. Help me to inspire others to make wise choices & do the same so that in the end we will reach our destination of eternal life...
