Sea Monsters!
These two verses refer to God's power in helping Moses to part the sea and crushing Pharoh and his army in it, recalling the Lord's words to Egypt in Ezekiel 32:2. "Leviathan" refers to the Canaanite seven-headed serpent, Lotan. In their legends, Baal defeated these creatures which are disputed as being anything from an earthly creature to a mythical sea monster in ancient liturature. This psalm praised God for doing in reality what the Canaanite gods could only do in legends. (See Exodus 14:21-28)
