God Wants Faith - Romans 4
God doesn't want people to obey the law for the sake of gaining access to heaven... In fact, he despises such actions! He wants us to have true faith in Him. He wants us to follow His commandments because it's the right thing to do, and by doing so, we bring Him joy because we're learning to be more like Him!
It's like the kids who attend class everyday and obey the rules only because they want to participate in the pizza party at the end of the school year, versus the kid who not only attends class and obeys the rules, but also helps the teacher during class, helps his classmates learn, and helps the teacher keep order, because this kid believes it's the right thing to do, and that by doing these things, he will learn from the teacher, help spread the teacher's lessons among his peers, and make his teacher proud. This kid wants to make himself and his classmates more knowledgeable, so he actively does things that the teacher wants done because he knows the teacher is trying to impart the knowledge to him. By excelling in class, and not simply do enough to get to the next grade level, he truly understands what he is being taught.
Who do you think the teacher appreciates more? Jesus is calling us to be more like Him, by having faith in Him. We can't understand the ramifications of doing right from wrong because we are not privy to that knowledge... But Jesus cares about us so much, that He's trying to show us the difference between right and wrong - we just have to open our hearts to Him, believe Him when He tells us to Love God and Love your neighbor, and believe IN Him, that He will be there to save us because He truly cares! What a golden opportunity we have, that we can learn all that God wants to teach us, if we just have True Faith in Him.
