Is it now safer to sin? - The man in Lamentations experienced God's severity by being "led into darkness" and God turning His hand against him again and again. Howeverr he had hope because "the Lord's love never ends and His mercy nevr stops.
God Unchanging -
We are commanded to be holy as He is holy in both Leviticus11:44 & 1 Peter 1:15-16.
Believers should "conduct ourselves in fear during the time of our temporary residence" as a response to the Old Testament command.
Malachi 3:6 tells us that "the Lord does not change"...I find this encouraging because we need a constant in our life.
God's Adminstration Has Changed -
God's people experienced fear at Mt. Sinai.
Believers have come to Mt. Zion, city of the living God.
The Old Covenant Versus the New Covenant -
When believers sin God corrects us because He disciplines the ones He loves.
Immediate, Physical Judgement Versus Future, Eternal Judgment -
I think Paul's warning to those that can now approach Mt. Zion rather than Mt. Sanai is basically learn from the mistakes of the Israelites.
When God is silent and slow to respond to sin He is showing patience and allowing people time to repent and come to know salvation.
