Play With Fire & You Will Get Burned!
Theme: Stealing Credit, Promotion & Advancement..
Scripture: 2 Samuel 1 - For David said to him, "Your blood be on your own head. Your own mouth testified against you when you said, ' I killed the Lord's anointed'"
Observation: This was a young man who stumbled across a situation and saw an opportunity to big note himself & gain some favour with the next leader. He did not kill Saul, he simply found him already dead and schemed as to how he could take advantage of the situation to line his own pocket & further his own career. Unfortunately for him his plan backfired on him because of David's respect for the Lord's anointed. Even though Saul was trying to kill David, David still respected & honoured the fact that Saul was God's anointed at one time! He did not think his plan through well enough & his own words cost him his life! To honour on God's behalf is a very big thing among leaders!
Application: We need to be very careful to NOT steal credit that does not belong to us, especially when it comes to trying to gain favour with other leaders! Never scheme to make out you are better than you are, never pretend you did something you did not to impress others, never take advantage of someone's suffering for your own gain. I promise you if you do, your words will betray you & end up costing you everything! Only receive credit when it is bestowed upon you from honestly & integrity!
Prayer: Father help me to always take my confidence from you. May I never steal credit that belongs to another in order to further my own position. Help me to cultivate this kind of heart in all whom I serve on your behalf.
