Intentional Disruption
Does anybody out there think that Jesus just so happened to forget to wash his hands? Of course not! He purposefully disregarded the custom/tradition in order to agitate the religious folks... not to get them irritated, but to point out an area where they needed a heart change.
So... fast forward to our lives today. How often do we turn up our nose at people or situations that irritate us, brushing them off as one would a pestering mosquito? Or worse, looking down at someone who doesn't know how to "play by the rules" and arrogantly feeling like we're better than them because we do?
What if God is intentionally setting up situations to expose areas of our hearts that need changing? The next time we encounter the modern-day equivalent of someone not washing their hands before eating, before we point out their "flaw" or "error", perhaps we should consider whether God may intentionally be setting us up with an opportunity for a much-needed heart change...
