Scripture:2 Sam 3:36-37 - All the people took note and were pleased; indeed everything the king did pleased them. So on that day all the people there and all Israel knew that the king had no part in the murder of Abner son of Ner.
Observation:David is being watched very closely to see how he will handle the situation that he is in. Abner has been murdered and most people are wondering if David is behind it in order to take his position as King. Maybe they are concerned, not sure if they want a King that behaves like that. David's actions will now either engender his people to him or cause them to stand aloof. David, of course, responds appropriately to Abner's death by fasting and mourning and weeping for this fallen great man of God. Everyone is watching and they soon come to the conclusion that David is innocent indeed.
Application:As leaders, how we respond during times of stress, difficultly and challenge sends a signal to those following or thinking about following us. Our actions either convey innocence and trust or a lack of confidence and guilt!
Prayer:Father help me to always remain calm and respond in a God honouring way. Remind me always that my actions and lifestyle send signals that either engenders trust & confidence or it erodes it. Teach me your ways I pray!
