Here is a counterpoint to me and many others I believe. This man admits that he almost fell due to jealousy. He was envious of the fat cats, the rich and those who rule by the backs of others.
This is so prevalent in our society today. They have no conscience to bother with, they look down on others, they are foul reprehensible and vile. They mock God and are hard core unbelievers. Still, we become jealous because they seemingly have it easy and are rich and have lots of stuff.
So he says in vain he has kept his heart clean and washed his hands in innocence. He has been rebuked and understanding eluded him until he sought God's face.
God is a good father and He revealed to him the ignorance of these peoples. I love how he explains to God that he was a beast to him. He was bitter and a brut and ignorant. How many of us would write that down for generations upon generations to read?
Once he understood though he came round. He knows God is his counsel, his rock, his refuge. He wants to tell of His goodness.
What a great Psalm for me, today, in the USA, where so many are arrogant fat cats.
Lord Jesus help me to remember this Psalm by Asaph and recall how jealousy will make me fall. I have what is good and right and decent in this world by abiding in you. Thank you for these lessons from righteous men and women of long ago to help me stay on the straight and narrow path. Lord I pray you are coming soon for your bride. May I have my lamp ready for you when I hear the shout. I love you so Lord and I pray in your precious name.
