Laying down your life for Jesus

James and John unknowingly declared that they were able to lay down their lives for Jesus. They were able to fully commit their lives to the Lord and suffer persecution. James was executed and John was exiled for the sake of His name. They truly picked up their cross and followed Jesus.
In Matthew 23, Jesus said that the Pharisees would persecute and execute many who would come after Him in His name. Matthew 24 says that we will be persecuted for our profession of Jesus as God.
I need to die daily and surrender ALL things to Him- family, finances, work, ministry, comfort. I have to fully seek and submit to His will and not my own well-being. My life has to be expendable for His glory. Only then will I be a true disciple of Jesus not just in word but in deed.
