David had unaddressed sin in his life that he thought no one knew about. He did not address his pride and lust. As a leader he influenced many. His sin would cause many to stumble. It would get even worse. So, God had to address it.
Our P. Gary Lau teaches on humility vs humiliation. They both come from the Latin word humus, which means ground. Humus is when you put your face to the ground. Humiliation is when God puts your face to the ground. This is publicly. Almost monthly you read about pastors falling in disgrace from a ministry due to some unaddressed sin.
God loves you and is gracious and merciful towards you. But, He is holy. He is just. He loves you too much to allow habitual sin to reign in your life. Humble yourself and repent before God humiliates you.
