Faithful & wise servant
Scripture: (45) "Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? (46) It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. (47) Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions."
Observation: A faithful and wise servant does what his master requires...especially when the master is gone. Not knowing when the master will return should amplify the servant's sense of responsibility to the master. While he is gone, Jesus wants me to: 1) spread the gospel 2) make disciples 3) baptize believers (Mt. 28:18-20). Vs. 46 says it's a good thing if I'm doing what he expects when he returns and I'll be rewarded with more responsibility.
Application: Today I want to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit and do the work of my master. I want Jesus to know that the work he left me to do is getting done, and if today is the day of his return I want him to find me busy at his business and not mine!
Prayer: Lord I want to release my goals and desires and be a faithful and wise servant for you. Help me be more concerned about your household than mine. Give me an eternal perspective about my responsibility so that I'll be busy doing what you want when you return. I want to get promoted in your economy and be worthy to be "in charge of all your possessions."
