No Titles

Jesus did not want his disciples to hold titles. They were to fulfill functions, such as apostle and elder and pastor, but these were not titles of honor. They were simply functions that people had within the body. No one was above anyone else. They did not resort to hierarchies to maintain order, but spiritual authority and the authority that comes from the truth. So when we call someone a pastor, it is not in order to lift them up into the place of Christ. Jesus Christ is our pastor first, and all other pastors are accountable to Christ. We look to Christ first, and then to others who have functions that extend Christ's leadership in the church.
