Smells

The woman, who in other versions was known as a "sinful woman" (prostitute most likely), came and poured her perfume on Jesus. This perfume is what she would have used to attract men, for her job. She would be the object of men's worship. When he broke it on Jesus' and poured it all over him, she was saying that Jesus was the one to worship now, an fully surrendering her past and present and future to Him.

Another thought:
Our noses are the best tool our bodies and minds use to trigger memories. Think about it, our nose can hold up to 10,000 different and distinct smells in our brain. When you smell that certain thing...it always brings you back to that moment. Now with that in mind, when she dumped that jar of the most fragrant of perfumes on Jesus, do you think that this smell filled the room? Now think about the disciples...now whenever they would smell this smell again, what memory do you think would come to mind? When they smelled the most beautiful perfume on a woman from that point on, they would be reminded of this amazing act of worship, and how Jesus responded. Amazing how God works, isn't it?

Verse 13 says that whenever they preach, they would remember this woman, as a woman who worshipped, not a woman who did sinful things. You see, worship changes our story. Now was she a woman that lived her life perfect from that point on? Probably not, because she is human! But she went down in history as the worshipper. She knew how to worship God, there is no question.

Worshipping God changed her destiny, changed the disciples perspective, and changed her story. Big shocker of the day: God uses "sinners"...A.K.A....us!
