Scripture: Psalm 55:16-17: As for me, I call to God and the Lord saves me. Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress and he hears my voice.
Observation: David is lamenting about the fact that life is not going well for him. His popularity has fallen, he seems to have more enemies than friends, and even some who were close friends with him, enjoying fellowship at the house of God, walking among the worshippers, have now turned on him. David is a man in pain; but look at how he handles that pain. He makes a decision of his will that he will not sit in the hole and sulk but he will call to His God for salvation. He maintains his usual contact with his God in prayer Evening, Morning and Noon. The one he wants help from is his heavenly Father.
Application: There will be times when everything seems to be going against us, times when even our friends seem to be turning away. These are not the times to be running around gossiping, slandering or complaining trying to engender support from others as this only causes further division. These are times where you stand firm in your connection with your heavenly Father. You come before Him on regular intervals Evening, Morning and Noon.
You will notice the order of these as it is very important. Evening, Morning and Noon- it actually goes all the way back to Genesis and creation where God says it was morning & evening on the first day, right? Wrong - it says it was evening & morningof the first day. Our day starts in the evening with our heavenly Father and then out of a time of rest in Him we rise to meet the challenges of the day. Then as we get about our work we stop again in the middle of our day to remind us of where we draw our life support and security from. We must pour out our heart's concerns to God before going to sleep so our rest will be sweet, then we rise and step into the day fresh with Him. We then pause for half time to make sure that our hearts are still from from the anxiety of the circumstances of life. Half time gives the coach opportunity to adjust the game plan on the fly!
Prayer: Father help me to always keep my relationship with you fresh. May I always understand where my help and deliverance comes from. Help me to model for others a better way to handle the pressures that life throws our way.
