2 altars

Abram just built an altar at verse 7 because the LORD appeared to him there. Why build another in verse 8? In anticipation of another appearance or promise? Or to remind himself of what just happened because he moved on from there? Or to bring a new sense of God's presence to a new place?

I disagree with the guy I quote below, even with his interpretation of what Chambers wanted us to get from his comment. "Balance" as if we shouldn't fully commit to God is a ridiculous thought. Like we should need less of God to be able to speak (live out) His Word properly to anyone. The point is that immediately after this Abram stops trusting God and runs to Egypt for help and he lies to do it. michaelt should have learned to NOT abide in the middle, ride the fence. '...no one can serve two masters...'

"I learned this through Oswald Chambers, it's important to note that here Bethel is the symbol of fellowship with God and that Ai is the symbol of the world. He pitched his tent there and worshiped. Isn't this the balance that we ourselves should hold? Seeking and waiting on the Lord, that we may "Go" into the world. I dig this because of the relevance it implies, I don't ever desire to be so "christian" that i'm not relevant nor relatable to real people. Not a people that dumb down truth, but a people that can build relationships that truth might be heard."
