Don't Get Stuck!
So interesting... Terah-- Abraham's dad-- had three sons. One of them was named HARAN. And according to Gen 11:28, Haran died. Then, Terah gets the rest of his family together to go to CANAAN. The promised land. Before it was even known as the promised land. Terah had it in mind to go from UR to CANAAN. But, unfortunately they had to go through a city named HARAN. I don't know if the city was named after the dead son or the son was named after the city-- or it was all just a bad coincidence. Either way, Terah had to pass through that city that reminded him of his dead son. And it says in verse 31 that Terah stopped at Haran and settled there. He could not get past Haran. He could not move forward. He got stuck. He died in Haran. He died without making it to CANAAN.
The enemy can bring back pain to mind. He can dredge up shame, embarrassment, depression, hurt and pain. And if I ma not careful, on my way to CANAAN-- on my way to where GOD WANTS ME TO BE, I can get stuck. I can stop moving forward because the pain of the past, the shame, the embarrassment, the hurt, the awfulness of something, anything in the past.
What is your HARAN? What is that city in between where you started and The Promise? Are you going to settle in your HARAN? Are you going to die in your HARAN without reaching your Promise?
God, help us. Help us. We don't want to be stuck in HARAN. We don't want to be stuck in the pain of the past, the hurt of the past, the shame of the past, the awfulness of the past. Help us deal with it properly. To mourn loss properly. To make amends for wrongs. And then MOVE FORWARD. Help us, Lord. In Your Sons Holy Name, Jesus Christ, AMEN.
