There are so many god-options, so many beautiful idols to spend my life in pursuit of. Which one of them died for me? Which one offers me grace and forgiveness? Then why do I spend so much time pursuing them.
I have pursued so many gods. I have pursued things in my life that I feel will bring fulfillment and pleasure. In the end, as I look back, I see that I was committing adultery. I was cheating on God. I was unfaithful to Jesus. As a bride who sleeps with another man, so I have left Jesus for someone else. I search far and wide for things to bring fulfillment. I search so far that I get tired from my search.
Each option I find is weak. They provide momentary pleasure, but nothing lasting. When the going gets tough, they fail me. They fall short. They blow over with the slightest wind. They don't have the power to stand.
And all along, God faithfully waits for me to come home. And when I do, He welcomes me with open arms. He never fails me. He always offers me a coffee and a place to sit after my search. He allows me to sit on the couch in His living room while we catch up. He graciously allows me to drag all my filth and dirt I have collected during my journey through His beautiful home. He stands up to the mightiest winds. He tells them to blow and to stop. He controls the universe with His words, He is in charge. And He loves me.
Yes, I can trust in the Lord my God.
