Sometimes God interrupts us, our plans and even our work for him, to bring new life to us. Usually this happens at times that we least expect it and doesn’t always look the way we’d expect it to look. This is what I see in these verses.
In the verses prior to this passage, Zacharias is in the middle of his priestly service in the temple of God when an angel appears to him. The angel tells him that God has not only answered the prayers of the nation, but also the personal prayers of Zacharias. He's not only giving him a son, but that son will be the forerunner to the Messiah. This is excellent news, but Zacharias focuses on what he thinks is a problem in the plan--his wife can’t have children. The angel addresses his lack of faith by taking away his ability to speak for a time. In God’s grace and mercy he doesn't disqualify Zacharias from being included in his great plan of redemption.
What area of your life is so problematic that it seems even God can't work with it? Tell him about it. Our doubts don't disqualify us from being included in God's plan. God is still able to use difficult circumstances to bring glory to Jesus.
