Proverbs 4:23-27...
Vigilance... head straight... so true. It's too easy to be distracted in life; so easy to drift off course. I can just about count all of the times I've taken my own detour because I thought I knew the right route to take. I've hit a dead-end every single time. My vehicle usually gets a couple of dings and the view from the rearview is less than scenic or worth looking at.
The times when I've neglected to guard my heart and keep close the words of wisdom are the times when I've been most hurt or left with regret for where I ended up. These are not the ways God wants for us because they are not the consequences he wants us to carry!
These verses are good reminders of what I choose when it's all left up to me - and the result is not what I want. Chasing the wrong things... coming up empty... not becoming who I want to be... looking everywhere but straight ahead.
