Proverbs 27:17- Iron sharpens iron
Scripture: As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. (Proverbs 27:17)
Observation: One sentence with so much meaning! Iron sharpens iron, one person sharpens another. When I first heard this term I didn’t know what it meant, but after experiencing iron in action, I knew right away what it meant.
Application: Do you have any iron in your life? We all have some type of iron. Our iron may be a trusted friend, an understanding pastor or an approachable first lady. Our iron may also be someone walking the same path we are on, someone needing sharpening as well. As I get older I realize I don’t have room in my life for dull people. I need people who will sharpen me, encourage me and give me the occasional ‘girl, what are you thinkin???’ That is so important! So I challenge you to do an inventory of your life to see who your iron is, and let them know how much you appreciate them!
Prayer: Father I thank You for the iron in my life. For the people who love me no matter what time of day it is, or what they need from me. People who recognize when I’m tired, when I’m sleepy, when I’m overworked and when I need to stop slacking. I am most thankful for the sharpest irons in my life: my husband, my brother and my best friend. Help me to remove the dull people from my life who leave me no better than when they found me and send more iron. Bless my week Lord, help me to stay on task and focused on my assignments. Give me the patience I need to deal with certain people. And help me to keep my ‘light on’ even when I’m tired or not feeling up to par. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
