What is your legacy?
Scripture: Exodus 34:7 NLT
I lavish unfailing love to a thousand generations. I forgive iniquity, rebellion, and sin.
But I do not excuse the guilty.
I lay the sins of the parents upon their children and grandchildren;
the entire family is affected—
even children in the third and fourth generations.”
Observation: The people in Exodus remind me of the people of today. They loved God, but they questioned Him every second of the day. They also tested Him time and time again. But what they didn't realize was that they were laying the foundation their future generations would have to live on. And a foundation of sin is a horrible place to begin.
Application: Have you ever said 'It's MY business?' Do you realize now that statement isn't true? Everything you do, even the little things, can be passed on to your children and your grandchildren. If you are living a faith-filled life, one that should be imitated and celebrated, then you should be proud to pass this on as a legacy. However, if you are living a sin-filled life, one that is all about YOU and what makes you feel good in the moment, then you need to reevaluate your actions. God sees everything, even the stuff you try so hard to hide. So take a moment today to inventory your day and remove anything you wouldn't want your child or your grandchild to experience. You have the power right now to turn it all around!
Prayer: Father I thank You for this reminder that my life is not my own. It is up to me to live to serve You and to please You. Help me to leave a legacy of love, faith, discipline and success for my child and grandchildren. Help me to end whatever sins were passed on to me so that our family can finally be free. Bless my day, Lord, keep me focused on the tasks at hand. In Jesus' name, Amen.
