This passage is not a prescription to live out your life as you please and then at the last minute you run and say "ok Lord im sorry Im ready to do it your way"..although if you did or do wait, he is still there waiting with the same offer we have all graciously accepted. Crazy huh? It's hard to get the mind around it...but honestly that is the point I think Jesus is making. Only he gets to decide b/c only he is able to correctlt judge a man/ woman's heart. As my friend Lance says" I'll decide" he must have gotten that from Jesus.
Seriously though...our attitude when others are blessed by God should be one of joy and thanksgiving...not jealousy. I know this is hard for those of us who are especially religious and feel as though we have earned a place on easy street or a seat on the gravy train..right? Christian... be very careful with looking at the lives of others and some how trying to see Gods favor based on their performance or Gods wrath based on their lack of performance. God decides..plain and simple; based on His good judgement. Our attitude should be one of kindness to those that come to Jesus no matter what hour it is and joy for those to whom God blesses with his provision according to his knowledge. We must be careful ourselves of falling into the trap of feeling entitled or owed anything other than what God has decided is our portion. We never deserve anything and we can't earn our way to a closer seat up front. So stop trying. Just be who you are, be thankful for your wage, keep your eyes on Jesus and be kind to others.
Blessings....
