Ephesians 3:17-21 NASB
so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.
I've not put this together before... Receiving Jesus Christ by faith is the beginning of a lifetime of "being rooted and grounded in love."
And it is THAT love that is "the power that works in us" and brings about the exceeding, abundant promises of God!
In my recent study of the fruit of the Spirit (www.newhopewc.org), I am once again reminded of the preeminent force that is God's love. No other power is greater. No other treasure worthy of my quest.
I recall the words to an ancient hymn:
Could we with ink the ocean fill, And were the skies of parchment made, Were every stalk on earth a quill, And every man a scribe by trade, To write the love of God above, Would drain the ocean dry. Nor could the scroll contain the whole, Though stretched from sky to sky.
O love of God, how rich and pure! How measureless and strong! It shall forevermore endure The saints' and angels' song.
Father, pour Your love in me today. Overflow me with Your presence and power, Your joy and peace. Your love is what empowers me to love You, to love others, and even to love myself.
I love You because You first love me.
