Shaking the dust off


Paul did this, too, so perhaps this is more normative than vv. 1 and 3. And, Paul only did this with his fellow Jews, to whom he went to first. There is no account of him doing this with the pagans. (And clearly, the apostles have a strictly Jewish audience in this case, too.)

However, are we to take any instruction for evangelism from this? Or is this situational? At minimum, we must realize that we cannot simply take this as a direct command for the church. We must establish the connection before we take this as instructive for us.

If there is any parallel to us, it is not that we would do this to the Jews or to the foreign field, but to churched people. If (big if) this is instructive, it would be that if churched people reject the true gospel, then we move along and focus on the pagan society. Perhaps maybe if worth-checking-out.
