Hold on to what you believe in

We all get messages from God, sometimes through the people around us and sometimes as a direct revelation.

God shows his power through the prophet from Judah. This man comes to King Jeroboam of Israel and openly defies him, knowing that the consequences of this will be death at the hands of the king's guards, but God shows his power. Surely the prophet has already seen that he's taking the right path?

Then a fellow prophet comes and contradicts the instructions the prophet from Judah has. OK he's tired and hungry, but he's already seen the power of God. For some reason he decides not to test this new, contradictory message.

People get killed by lions all the time, so it might have been just a coincidence. God makes quite sure that we know it isn't a coincidence - the donkey doesn't run away, and the lion doesn't attack the donkey and doesn't eat the man, which shows it has to be God taking action.

Let me not waste this man's life by learning nothing. Let me test the instructions and revelations I receive, and try always to cling to God and to do things that will bring Glory to God, even if they seem to make me look a fool (remember that David was quite content to look stupid dancing infront of the ark of the covenant and repenting when he was named in public, and look where it got David - known everywhere and for ever).

Glory to God, and to God alone
