...really people, you need to stop performing hermeneutical gymnastics to make this "fit" our current cultural norms and just admit that Paul (or "the writer") was giving a clear command to a specific group pf people during a specific cultural time that was oppressive to women. This is a clear example of misogynistic teaching in the Bible.
You don't have to go back to Genesis to understand what he meant, you don't have to justify it by claiming pro-woman verses else ware in the bible, just be open and accept the fact that it is what it is. It was a different time, a different place and we, Christian or not, now understand this type of attitude & behavior doesn't work and is immoral.
