Are You Serious?
It was an interesting command. Without any context, a prophet asked a man to strike him. The man like any rational person refused to do so. But then the prophet told the guy that he made a big mistake and that his death was imminent. This is a case of biblical confusion. Just a few chapters ago in 2 Samuel, an Amelekite killed Saul at his request. Surely the request of a king should be taken with seriousness. Yet, when David heard this he had the Amelekite killed.
It is a biblical quandary of when do you do what is asked? I guess the two parables have to be taken as separate instances. The basic takeaway is that, if asked to do something by God or someone that God has placed in authority, it is a good idea to follow it.
Lord, help me to have a faith that is reliant on you. Lord, help me not to question your commands.
