Context & the Prodigal Son

Luke 15:1-3
The context for why he tells the parables in the following verses. "Jesus welcomes sinners"

The sinners of the day would have rather spent their time with Jesus than the teachers of the day. They were drawn to them. He had something they were searching for.

Purpose:
To demonstrate to the Pharisees how much the Father loves sinners.

The 3 parables cover all of humanity:
- The coin didn't know it was lost and didn't know it needed to be found.

- The lamb knew it was lost but didn't know what to do to be found

- The son knew he was lost and knew what he needed to do to be found.
