Leaving a legacy -- the pain
Imagine leaving the most wonderful work of your life only to have the next generation ruin it. You teach a class only to have them go on to the next grade, maybe to a very poor teacher, and have them learn to despise learning. You take good care of your beloved family home, sell it, only to learn that the new owners have painted it some awful shade of bright mustard yellow. You work hard in church, teaching the youth, only to have them go on and stop caring...
Solomon has seen this. We can't do it for everyone else. We have to just do it for God. Not for glory, riches, a lasting name, but for God.
