I do not think it gains us anything to make assumptions. We must be flexible to understand that IF archeological evidence suggest a reality we must consider that reality. Especially when there might be other scripture that support the new idea. The OLD-Earth supposition states that there might have been millions of years between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2. The biblical narrative might indeed support this idea too. Who were the Nephalum and who was Cain scared of? If we look to archeology for a possible answer or answers... What about the Neanderthal or the other homo-species? Who were they and are they part of the Bible narrative? I think yes.
