idols
I am reading this passage and reminded of the idols of our day. We sacrifice our time, talents and treasures to so many things. We have computers, smart phones, families, comfort, TV, food, religion, social programs, quest for knowledge, cars, the list goes on.
None of those things are bad by themselves, but we raise them up, as if only the next car, or the better house, or not owning the house, then everything would be better. If I had more money, because money will really solve the discontentment and lack of trust we have in God won't it.
If we believe God is sovereign over all things and the cross accomplished the work than why do we go running back to comfort from anyplace other than Christ.
We go to I'll work harder and everything will be better rather than believing that God loves us and in the midst of our trials He is still pouring out His love to us.
Our idols are many! Praise God that he already knew that and even at my worst rebellion against Him he saved me.
It is never an external problem it is always my flesh rebelling against what God has for me that leaves me discontent with my situation. I pray by the power of the Holy Spirit I turn to Him instead of an external worldly solution to my problems.
