Don't steal Power!
Theme: Conspiracy, Steal Credit & Power.
Scripture: 2 Kings 15: 10 - Shallum son of Jabesh conspired against Zechariah. He attacked him in front of the people, assassinated him and succeeded him as king.
V13-14 - Sahallum son of Jabesh became king in the thirty-ninth year of Uzziah king of Judah and he reigned in Samaria on month. Then Menahem son of Gadi went from Tizrah up to Samaria. He attacked Shallum son of Jabesh in Samaria, assassinated him and succeeded him as king.
Observation: In this portion of scripture we discover a few very important principles.
1. If you live by the sword you die by the sword - the principle of sowing & reaping,
2. When you try to steal credit & power that God has not handed to you, it will be a short lived portion of success.
Shallum assassinated Zechariah publicly in order to steal the position of King & he succeeded. However, Menahem in turn assassinated Shallum in the same way after only one month of enjoying his Kingship.
Application:No matter how frustrated you might become in relation to leadership you do not ever want to conspire a coup to lead towards a public assassination. If you steal leadership in this way it will only be a short lived term of appeared success before you exit in the same manner by which you stole the leadership in the first place. If God wants you to lead something he will elevate you into it, you will not have to manipulate & conspire to steal it, and if you do choose to steal credit & power from another it will burn you every time!
Prayer: Father help me to always be content with where you have me & give me the wisdom to never conspire to the public assassination of someone I perceive to not be doing a good job. Teach me to appeal to authority in a God honouring way to effect change & help me to inspire & train our people to do the same!
