Lack Nothing

The first line of Psalm 23 tells me two essential truths that hinge on one another:
"The Lord is my Shepherd, I have all I need"  (NLT)
In other Biblical versions: "The Lord is my Shepherd, I lack nothing." (TNIV); "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not be in want." (NIV) "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." (NKJV)  No matter what version — they all state the same truth: Belong to the Lord, God; lack nothing. The verses then go on to list how He provides everything that is needed.
I get tangled up in the world's image of what I should want and need. I find myself feeling lesser because I do not have this or that. I find myself being over extended in my finances because I buy into the lie. I constantly have to be in the truth of the Word so I know the my Lord provides all I need.
It is three days before "Black Friday" — a day the merchants hope to sell enough stuff to bring their profits into the plus side or black ink from red ink. Though I am a shopper, I have never been a fan of the day or the craziness of the season. I would rather leisurely shop — but my shopping is  a way for me to compensate for what I feel I am lacking inside. Some call it 'retail therapy,' which is often followed by 'buyers remorse'.
Dear Lord, please remind me that I have You as my Shepherd and You provide all I need.  I am so thankful for You. I pray this advent season to be more conscientious of being a good steward and to follow You closer.
