So, dad, where's the lamb?

How in the world do you answer that question without lying? I'm not sure I would have been as insightful as Abraham. God had told him to sacrifice the son he waited 100 years for. And he's going trough the steps. Then Isaac asks the big question, where's the lamb?

As a father it's hard to imagine giving my son back to God in such a final way. Sure I've "given him to God" in the spiritual sense but Abraham's giving was so focused, so all-inclusive. My giving is more general and sometimes doesn't have a lot of meat to it.

Yet even under the weight of all this Abraham was able to point to God as the provider. "God will provide", he said. He knew that because God already had. God had given him son in the most unlikely and miraculous manner. He'd seen it before. Maybe this was just another one of God's seemingly unbelievable acts of kindness.

The weird thing is that Abraham doesn't even balk. No questions. No whining. No hesitation. Powerful. It's why he's one if the heroes of faith.

I want to get closer to that way of living. All around me are signs of God's miraculous kindness. But still, my trust in him seems far from what I see in Abraham. No doubt, I have a long way to go. Good thing that God is patient...
