Consuming...
For our God [is indeed] a consuming fire. (Hebrews 12:29 AMP)
Consuming...
Things in each of our lives consume us, sports, family, friends, hobbies, television and countless countless other things. Some of these things are good, some are bad, and some are completely out of balance. God is the only one that we can consume or that can consume us in a very healthy balanced way and even then sooo many people consume God in an out of balanced way. But what we are talking about is really not what we consume but that God is consuming.
The word consume is a strong word, it evokes strong imagery and feelings and we would hope that in our lives anything that would consume us, out of which being consumed by anything is not usually the best thing as more often than not it indicates something is a bit out of balance.
Notice that 'consuming' can work both ways. Something can consume us and we can be consumed by something. God wants us to be consumed with Him and not other things. If we are consumed with Him, then as it says 'Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you.
If we are spent on consuming other things then soon enough the signs will show themselves, nothing and no one that we are consumed by will prove to always cause growth, fruit, peace, love, joy all the time. As a matter if fact as soon as we are consumed by, for or with something else in an out of balance way it will already have been planting it seeds in our soil that will only take a matter of time to ripen and come to harvest that will show what happens when things are out of balance - for example hurts, rejections, sickness, being burnt out, so many things.
When we talk about consuming in relationship to God I think of His holiness. God's holiness is the element that consumes, put His holiness anywhere near any kind of sin and it has to be consumed and the only thing that can be consumed by that fire in place of the sin is the blood of Jesus shed for us on the cross that brings us into right standing with God, and then we are spared....
Oh the precious blood of Jesus, the precious sacrifice made for us, I repent, I am forgiven, my sins are washed away. In the meantime day by day I am being formed into His likeness and he is changing me from the inside out.
Thank God for His mercy, grace, his perfect plan to bring us into relationship with him, to save our souls and to bridge that gap that nothing else could bridge....
