Stop Pouting

I asked one of my children to complete a small, simple task on yesterday and you would have thought that I asked them to build us a house. Immediately the facial expression turned from a smile to a frown, the body language turned to a slouched position, the lip dropped, the eyes became sad, and the movement was in slow motion. Most of us would call that pouting. It is a response that we often see in children when they are either asked to do something they don't want to do or they want to do something and they are told no.

I was reminded this morning that I often pout in my relationship with God. My response to the commands of God is not like Abraham's response that is recorded in Genesis 22. God told Abraham to take his only son and offer him as a burnt offering. Abraham responded by immediately moving to do what God requested of him. I was encouraged by the way Abraham carried out God's request. There is no indication in Scripture that he pouted. Instead, Abraham viewed God's command as an act of worship.

I want to view every command of God as an opportunity for me to worship God. I don't want to view it as a chore or interruption that would cause me to pout.

Choose today to view the command of God as an opportunity to worship. Stop pouting.
