You're Invited!
I had a humbling experience several years ago with my family. I was sitting in the room with my wife and children, thinking to myself, "this is good, I am spending time with my family". Until my daughter lovingly confronted me. She said, "dad you're not with us". I responded defensively, "what do you mean, I'm not with you. I am sitting in the same room and listening to what is being said". To which she responded, "yes, but you are somewhere else. You are reading and working". I paused for a moment, conviction set in. She was right. I am present in the room, but I'm not with them. I am somewhere else. They don't have my focus, my attention, my engagement. I am not giving them me and enjoying them. So I responded, "you are right, I will put my things up and be with you. thank you".
As I read this morning, I wondered if God was saying the same thing to me that my daughter said. "You're not with me. You are in the room, your Bible is open, but you are really not here." Mark 3:13 communicates that Jesus invited the disciples to "be with him". The invitation wasn't to prioritize doing stuff. It was to prioritize being with him. Jesus invites each of us as followers to be with him. The most important thing we can do on any day is be with Jesus.
Choose today to make everything else secondary and being with Jesus as primary.
