Overnight Success
It's easy to look on the surface when a new band, or author, or politician "makes" it and think they were lucky. We look at the Beatles and their US invasion and falsely believe that they must have just started playing when in reality they spent years honing their craft night after night. When opportunity strikes it is not the lucky who fall into it but the prepared who step up.
On the surface it seems that Joshua was randomly chosen to lead the Israelites but with a little study you see that he faithfully served alongside Moses for decades. Joshua put in the time and allowed God to grow him into a leader.
Those who are ambitious about "making" it should put the time in serving, practicing, learning, and growing.
