Why are you cowardly?
I read this passage this morning... and thought, "hmm, how do I take this with me today?"
As I was putting my daughter down to sleep, I was telling her about my day (she can't talk yet, so the real value was a calm, quiet voice). I said, "I started with a little Bible study about Jesus and the storm... and his friend were scared and woke Jesus up... and he told the storm to stop and then asked his friends why they were scared..."
That's when I realized, how often do we forget ourselves and panic. Jesus was not panicking. He did not fear the storm. He was asleep. The disciples were taking their cues from their own understanding, their own fear-filled interpretations about what was to be. But, if God has claimed us, why then should we fear? When life gets out of control, remember that Jesus is sleeping in the bow. Wake him up if you don't believe me!
