Jesus needed to go to Samaria, because he needed to talk to the woman at the well. He waits at the well for this one specific woman. The woman just ignores Him, despite him being THE SON OF GOD. He initiates the conversation. The woman has had 5 husbands, and is buttering up numbah six. She assumed that Jesus was there to pick up chicks. She tries to ignore him so she doesn't have another man in her life. When He talks to her, she tells him to talk to the hand. She let her PERSPECTIVE influence her PRESENT. She was letting her past block her from experiencing something completely new!

"You can only receive what you can perceive."
You have to remain faithful to God's vision. The people of Jesus's hometown couldn't SEE him as the Son because they knew him as the son... of Mary and Joseph, not God.

The woman SHOULD have been surprised that the King was asking HER for water. Jesus was making an illustration- the woman's soul was dry, and she needed LIVING water, Jesus, not another man. You have to put your faith and trust and form your identity around something that is unchanging. I.e. JESUS. There is a step beyond salvation: getting personal with Jesus.
