Insulting God
God loves a dedicated heart that turns to him in times of good, and in times of trouble. The King of Assyria turned only to himself and his military might. He sent agents to make threats and to insult the One God.
Isaiah is a wonderful voice of assurance to Hezekiah the King of Judah. Jerusalem will not be overtaken. The Assyrians will not even fire an arrow into the city.
As a lawyer, I often face opposition that seems overwhelming. The opposition often sounds like the King of Assyria, using psychological tactics to "get in my mind" by bravado and belligerence. The world in its darkness hates the light, and we Christians are likewise attacked and ridiculed by enemies. In all this, we have a champion: the Living God who will not let his children be defeated [the forces of hell shall not prevail against the church].
Let Isaiah's assurance to Israel be yours as well: God will handle the enemy. He will send an "angel of the Lord" to fight the battle we could not win on our own. God will not be insulted.
