Two Kings; Two Outcomes
Compare the fate of Belshazzar, King of Babylon with King Hezekiah of Judah found at 2 Kings 19 and 2 Kings 20. Belshazzar followed a path of idolatry and dishonor of the true God. Hezekiah followed a life of complete devotion and honor of the true God.
The "writing on the wall" seemed so different for them at first. Hezakiah was pressed against the wall with insurmountable forces arrayed against him. He turned to God, who destroyed the arrogant Assyrians encamped just outside Jerusalem.
Belshazzar was seemingly untouchable in his power and position. But God took the time to reveal another message to the arrogant and blasphemous king: your days are short and without weight. The very next day, Belshazzar was murdered.
God doesn't care about the world's alignment of power or prestige. God cares about the heart of the believer. He will protect the lives of those who love him. In Jesus, we are secure forever with Him in Heaven. The arrogant will be destroyed, and the repentant and humble will be saved.
