Responding to suffering

Sometimes we know why, but sometimes not. Buddhism and Hinduism have great "explanations", but they stop there - the suffering is deserved; shake your head and move along. Buddhism may suggest compassion, but doesn't that interfere with the impersonal meting out of karma? And, if personhood is an illusion, isn't compassion a delusion?

Jesus breaks this model. Since the suffering may not be "deserved", our response should be, how can God be glorified in this? What is our part? The focus is shifted from assigning blame to compassionate action.
