When Jesus came to earth He wasn't given the gentle ride, the full scholarship or the easy payment plan. When he came as a baby, that's what he was, just a baby. He was not super-baby who just needed to learn to control his awesome powers. He was powerless and dependant just like us. When the verse says that he grew in "wisdom and in stature" that means that he grew into those attributes, they were not already there. He worked for them and they came slowly but surely, as is the case for us. Jesus was given no special favours when he came to live on earth. Jesus was handed nothing.
