The Word
"In the beginning there was the Word. The Word was with God, and the Word was God." - John 1:1 (NCV)
In the Old Testament, when God had something to say to his chosen people, He often spoke through a prophet. Each of His messengers revealed a little more about Himself. Yet, so much was left untold. He held His cards close to His chest. He had a beautiful, unimaginable, long-range plan that would be too unbelievable for many of His chosen people. Finally, when the time came to unveil this wonderful plan, who did He choose to deliver this message?
His own Son. Born as a baby.
Jesus was called "the Word" because He was not just a messenger, He was the Message. Everything God wanted to share with humankind was wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.
"The Word became a human and lived among us. We saw his glory--the glory that belongs to the only Son of the Father--and he was full of grace and truth." - John 1:14 (NCV)
This message was different. God became the message. He became one of us. This incredible message was spoken through the life of a Person, who was God Himself with a body. In Christ, God was translating His Message into our language. His Word to us was full grace and truth.
This Christmas and everyday, He wants to be the first and last Word in your life.
May you live in grace and in truth.
