Soiled Loincloths
God's people now, as they were in the days of Jeremiah, are called to cling to God, to be a praise (implication: A praise to God). Notice that we aren't called to merely be good boys and girls. Christianity cannot be boiled down to moralism. It is about clinging firmly to Christ.
Sadly, like Jeremiah's loin cloth - especially for those of us in the west, and even more so in the "Bible Belt" - we suppress our allegiance to God under the soil of idolatry. Not just the idolatry of explicit sin, but moralism. We go to church for years and have little (if any) love for Jesus. So it's no wonder that our allegiance to Christ is no allegiance at all. It soils as our affections increase for darkness.
But we are called to live and love Christ, clinging to him, his ways, his will, his kingdom. How many soiled loincloths fill our churches?
