Faith and Hearing/Speaking

When the deaf and mute man was brought to Him to be healed, Jesus chose to use an unusual method of putting His fingers into his ears and touching his tongue. He could've easily healed the man by just speaking the words, but why did Jesus go through the hassle of touching the problematic parts of his body?

From observing how Jesus healed other people, I noticed that Jesus chose to heal people in response to their faith in Him so that their faith would be solidified by the miracle and God would be glorified. In order to draw out their faith, He sometimes asked, "Do you want to be healed?" or "What do you want me to do for you?" By asking these kind of questions, Jesus gave them an opportunity to confess their faith in Him.

This occassion was no different. Jesus wanted to draw out this deaf man's faith, but since he could not hear, the man would not have gotten chance to realize what Jesus was about to do if Jesus just spoke to him, and therefore would not have had an opportunity to bring up and confess his faith in Jesus. By personally touching the man's ears and tongue, allowing the man to know what He was about to do, Jesus drew out his faith and healed him not only physically, but spiritually as well.

Jesus wants to open our spiritual ears and loosen our spiritual tongue so that we can have fellowship with Him. We need to have the faith that Jesus can do this for us as we humble ourselves and be willing to obey whatever Jesus tells us to do. As we seek to hear His voice, ready to submit under His will no matter the cost, I believe Jesus will open our spiritual ears and loosen our spiritual tongue so that we can hear His voice regularly and have a close fellowship with Him, walking with Him all the days of our lives like Enoch and Noah and many others did.

Lord, I long to hear Your voice daily. Please open my ears and help me to obey you as you speak to me.
