The Other Side of the Coin
A lot of parents like the previous verses, where children are to obey parents. But many overlook or misinterpret this verse.
I know in my life there's a lot of opportunity to provoke my kids. It's hard not to, when what they do really irritates you. Your careless instruction will be condescending to them. Don't pretend you're not one of them - everyone does this to some extent.
If you can keep your responses measured and age-appropriate, then your instruction can then be seen as godly. Otherwise, you're just as carnal in your discipline as they are carnal in their rebellion.
