Chapter 7 goes into detail about why Melchizedek plays an important role and how it shadowed Jesus' supreme priesthood. Let's note some things:
- 1 - His name means king of righteousness and king of peace
- 2- He is without genealogy, meaning without beginning or end
- 3- He received a tenth from Abraham
- 4- Melchizedek is superior than the priesthood that came from Abraham - the Levites
These four points the author of Hebrews uses to establish Jesus as the true higher priest, in the order of Melchizedek, not the Levitical priesthood which was temporary.
- 1- Jesus is the Righteous One, the Prince of Peace
- 2- Jesus is eternal, without beginning or end
- 3- We give him all our spoils in this life - our entire body!
- 4- He is superior - by His perfect blood we are redeemed and he intercedes for us in the true holy of holies in Heaven before God, His father!
So using Abraham's account the author convinces the Hebrews how Jesus' priesthood is superior to the Levitical priesthood and how He has brought a new covenant, which is the fulfillment of Abraham's covenant, since the Law was temporary.
